No. 7 Florida may have been caught watching the SEC championship game against No. 1 Alabama on Saturday night when it lost to the unrated LSU last weekend. That result may have put an end to the hopes of the College Football Playoffs regardless of the conference's final outcome.

That doesn't mean the Crimson Tide showdown means less to a team that could score at least 10 wins in three consecutive seasons for the first time since the late 1990s. The Gators (8-2), who still believe they would be in the college football playoffs with a win, are also keen to improve Alabama's offer in a perfect season. The flood (10-0) was last undefeated in 2009.

Heisman trophy contenders stand on both sides. Florida has record-breaking quarterback Kyle Trask and Alabama has the prolific combination of passerby Mac Jones and receiver DeVonta Smith.

Alabama has a streak of six straight wins against Florida.
