Anya Taylor-Joy fits in New Pic as Batgirl for DC Films & HBO Max

New Mutants star Anya Taylor-Joy wears Batgirl’s cape and hood for DC Films and HBO Max’s upcoming project.

Batgirl is one of the many projects Warner Bros. in the works. The script was written by Birds of Prey and Flash writer Christina Hodson. We recently learned that the Batgirl Project is for HBO Max, but it’s unclear whether it will take place in the DC Extended Universe starring Ben Affleck’s Batman, in Matt Reeves’ The Batman Universe, or exist as a thing of its own. As the project nears a realization, more details will be revealed, but fans are still releasing names they believe will be a good match for Barbara Gordon, and a popular one is Anya Taylor-Joy.

Anya Taylor-Joy is no stranger to comic films as she played Magik in The New Mutants, which will actually air on HBO Max this weekend. As the Batgirl Project takes shape, Taylor-Joy becomes DC Films’ Batgirl through a new piece of fan art from Instagram. You can check out the awesome fan art below.

Here is the official recap of Anya Taylor-Joy’s The New Mutants:

In this terrifying, action-packed film based on the MARVEL comic book series, five young people demonstrating special powers are taken to a secret facility to undergo treatments that they are told will come from the Dangers of their powers will heal. Includes Danielle Moonstar aka Mirage (Blu Hunt), who creates illusions out of other people’s fears; Rahne Sinclair (Maisie Williams), who transforms into the werewolf Wolfsbane; Sam Guthrie (Charlie Heaton) who, as a cannonball, can fly at jet speeds protected by a force field; Roberto da Costa aka Sunspot (Henry Zaga), who absorbs and channels solar energy; and Illyana Rasputin alias Magik (Anya Taylor-Joy). Magik, the younger sister of the colossus, is wrapped in armor at will and carries a soul sword that enhances her diverse superhuman and psychic abilities.

At the invitation of Dr. Cecilia Reyes (Alice Braga), sharing her stories about when her powers first manifested, the five “patients” understand that they belong to a class of people called mutants who have historically been marginalized and feared. As they relive their original stories, their memories seem to turn into horrific realities. Soon they ask what is real and what is not, and it becomes clear that the institution is not what it seems. The question now is: why are they being held captive? And who is trying to destroy it? The tension and horror rise in this white knuckle thrill ride directed by Josh Boone and co-written by Boone and Knate Lee.

Directed by Josh Boone from a script he co-wrote with Knate Lee, New Mutants stars Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, Blu Hunt and Henry Zaga.
