Musiala makes historical past when Bayern beat Lazio
Jamal Musiala became England’s youngest goalscorer in the Champions League when Bayern beat Lazio 4-1 in the first leg of the round of 16 in Rome.
The 17-year-old midfielder scored the second of the German team’s three goals in the first half as they almost secured their spot in the quarter-finals.
Robert Lewandowski opened the game by using a back pass from Mateo Musacchio and shooting home in the first 10 minutes of the game.
It was the Poland’s 72nd goal in the competition that stood out from Raul and became the third top scorer in the history of the competition after Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Musiala then doubled the lead, scoring a hit in the corner of the net, becoming the second youngest player of all nationalities to score in the Champions League knockout stage.
Only Bojan for Barcelona against Schalke in 2008 can improve his record.
Leroy Sane made it to three just before the break and stabbed home after Pepe put Reina Kingsley Coman’s shot in the way to threaten the humiliation of Bayern’s Serie A opponents.
When Francesco Acerbi played through his own net early in the second half, Lazio’s situation worsened but Joaquin Correa pulled one back almost immediately and it stayed that way.
Not that Hansi Flick’s team is too concerned. That result warns you that the reigning champions are still the team to beat.
In Lazio’s next game, they are looking to return to the Serie A Champions League with a trip to Bologna on Saturday. Start at 5 p.m.
Bayern will receive FC Köln, threatened with relegation, in the Allianz Arena on Saturday. Start at 2.30 p.m.
The second leg of this Champions League round of 16 will take place on March 17th. Start at 8 p.m.
