Amazon launches a new ring security camera mounted on a flying drone.

The Ring Always Home Cam is a stand-alone indoor surveillance camera that can fly into your home and capture footage from multiple angles. Users define a path that the device should fly throughout the house. When the device is not in the air, it snaps into a dock that blocks the camera to address privacy concerns.

Amazon introduced the device along with a number of new products during its virtual hardware event on Thursday. The company announced updated Echo and Echo Show models, as well as new ring security cameras for cars, and launched its video game streaming service Luna.

Ring, which was acquired by Amazon in 2018, has tackled multiple areas of the smart security market, launching connected doorbells and smart home cameras that allow people to check in their homes remotely.

Ring founder Jamie Siminoff wrote in a blog post that the Always Home Cam allows people to monitor multiple areas of their home with just one device instead of buying multiple cameras. The drone is connected to a ring alarm, the company's smart home security system. When the system detects suspicious activity, the Always Home Cam will automatically fly over "to see what happens".

Ring devices have given Amazon another opportunity to involve customers deeper in its ecosystem and to integrate them into Alexa's virtual assistant. However, the company also faced privacy concerns after Ring's decision to work closely with law enforcement agencies to help solve crimes became controversial. Legislators have been taking a closer look at Ring and the customer video material to which its employees have access.

Siminoff said the Always Home Cam was built with "privacy and security" in mind. According to the Ring, the device only records in flight and the motors are loud enough for users to hear it moving around the house.

"It cannot be controlled manually to ensure that only what is important to you is recorded and seen," added Siminoff.

The Always Home Cam will be available in 2021 and cost $ 250.
