Wallis Day talks about replacing Ruby Rose as Kate Kane on ‘Batwoman’
Batwoman and Krypton star Wallis Day has spoken out in favor of replacing Ruby Rose as Kate Kane on the CW series.
After Ruby Rose shocked Arrowverse fans last year with the news that she had left her role as Kate Kane in Batwoman, many wondered how the series would continue. Keep it up: Javicia Leslie’s excellent Ryan Wilder took over the cloak of the new Dark Knight in Gotham City. However, Batwoman didn’t want to distance herself completely from Kate Kane as she is a key heroine in the Arrowverse. Instead, her disappearance became a key mystery on the series when Wallis Day joined the cast to replace Ruby Rose in the role after Kane was disfigured in an accident. And now Day has talked about how she landed the part.
While speaking with CBR, Wallis Day explained that she initially thought she was unsuccessful because showrunner Caroline Dries revealed to her that the writers (with Ryan Wilder) were heading in a new direction. The actress said it “gnawed at me” before Dries contacted her again in 2021 and offered her the role after the writers found a way to use Kate Kane for season two of Batwoman as part of the Black Mask Bringing back history. Take a look below.
“Yeah, so I actually went out last year when they announced Ruby’s departure [Rose]. But a few weeks later they said they were going in a different direction. But [showrunner] Caroline [Dries] e-mailed me and just said, “Look, we’re going in a different direction, but when we get Kate back I’ll call you.” And I just said, “Yeah right, everyone always says that to the actors!” But to be honest, I was really upset about it because it just felt so right. You never really get excited because as an actor you got used to the rejection, but it just gnawed me. In January Caroline called and I said, “Yeah, I still want to play Kate! Let’s do this!’ And here we are. “
